New members and WEF endorse buildingSMART
China Communication Construction Company have become Strategic Members of buildingSMART International in a move that greatly strengthens the ability to develop digital solutions for the built environment. CCCC are a large infrastructure provider with an increasing international reach, not least through their engagement with the Belt and Road program, therefore their real world experience is welcomed by the Board of buildingSMART.
The agreement was signed in Beijing alongside the management team from buildingSMART China, in a week that also saw the launch of the IFC Rail Project and a new buildingSMART Shanghai Center opened.

CCCC, a state owned company, traces its heritage back to 1897 and is engaged with creating many civil assets with its largest areas of work being port development and bridge design and construction. Significant projects include the Yangshan Deep Water port in Shanghai, the Sutong Yangtze River bridge and the recently opened 50km Hong Kong, Zuhai and Macau sea crossing.
CCCC is a major contributor to buildingSMART’s open digital standards for Ports and Harbours project as previously reported.
Another contributor to this initiative is Dutch company Royal HaskoningDHV, who have recently become multi national members of buildingSMART International.
buildingSMART are delighted to have such influential and important companies as CCCC and Royal HaskoningDHV in its community. Their membership is further endorsement of the progress that the openBIM™ program is making.
It is also reflected in the World Economic Forum publication ‘accelerating the adoption of BIM’, which highlights buildingSMART's approach of bringing the World's stakeholders together to deliver the vision through a common plan
At the forthcoming Summit in Paris (March 26 – 29) all activities, as well as the infrastructure projects, will continue to be worked on and buildingSMART International will be announcing another significant organisation that has elected to become one of their Strategic Members.
