Rail Committee
buildingSMART USA is seeking interested parties who would like to participate on an industry committee focused on promoting open standards and interoperable data exchange for the Railway Domain.
buildingSMART International has a very active Railway Domain that has invested heavily (multiple years and millions of Euros) in adding Rail entities and semantics to the IFC 4.3 Schema via the robust buildingSMART standards development process with international consensus. The IFC 4.3 Schema has now been submitted for adoption as an ISO Standard for the design and construction of building and infrastructure projects, including Rail. More information on the buildingSMART Railway Domain and IFC Rail is available.
The IFC4.3 open standard is currently being implemented by leading global software companies including Autodesk, Bentley, Trimble, Esri, Nemetschek, Oracle, Bexel, ACCA, ODA, InfoTech and many others.
Many national agencies have been involved in extending IFC for the Rail entities and some of these are already in the process mandating IFC 4.3 for Rail infrastructure projects. They include SBB (Switzerland), CRBIM (China), BANE (Norway), BANE (Denmark), Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, Trafikverket (Sweden), SNCF (France), HS2 (UK) in the UK, DB Netze (Germany), OEBB (Austria), RFI (Italy) and others.
We believe that there are tremendous savings and efficiencies to be gained by also using openBIM© for Rail projects in the US market. We are eager to have industry leaders help us demonstrate those benefits to Federal Railroad Administration, American Assoc of Railroads, Federal Transit Administration, Amtrak and other national and regional owner/operators for both freight and passenger networks
