IFC Today and Tomorrow: Toward a New Architecture of Interoperability

October 13 @ 12:00 pm Eastern

Join the bS-USA Technical Committee to look at the past, present, and future of the original foundation of buildingSMART's interoperability standards, Industry Foundation Classes (IFC). As the built asset industry matures in its digitization efforts and the technologies everyone uses to communicate information continue to evolve, buildingSMART recognizes that its technology standards should mature to meet the increasingly complex needs of industry stakeholders. IFC continues to be the core of information interoperability, but how it is used and what other complementary standards and technologies support or expand that core functionality are expanding.

Speaker: Jeffrey W. Ouellette (jō consulting, bS-USA Technical Committee Chair)

Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management as he walks the community through the proposal for a US national standard data dictionary (the USDD), governed by bS-USA and its members, to leverage the bSDD in delivering standardized terms, definitions, classifications, and linking other standards to US industry end users through their software. As the leader of the USDD Working Group, Aaron will explain how industry stakeholders and group members will work to develop and maintain the data dictionary content to ensure the highest quality, single source of truth for how the US built asset industry translates data into actionable, valuable information.
